David Annis, Ph.D.

David H. Annis, Ph.D. is founder and principal of SportsQuant.  He is also Director, Head, Model Validation & Approval at Wells Fargo Securities.

Previously, he was an Assistant Professor in the Operations Research Department at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.   A graduate mechanical engineer, he worked as a designer for an international flight propulsion manufacturer before returning to academia to earn his doctorate in mathematical statistics1.

In addition to his work in sports modeling, Dr. Annis's eclectic interests have resulted in published research papers in experimental design, antimicrobial testing, materials science (fatigue and non-destructive evaluation) and pedagogy2.

He ran a marathon in under four hours (3:53, Cincinnati, 2001), shot 87 at Pebble Beach (1997) and was a player/coach on an intramural championship basketball team as an undergraduate.

A lifelong football fan, his first experience at a professional game was at ALLTEL Stadium, where he watched the Jaguars defeat the San Francisco 49ers in the 1996 preseason.



1 He graduated with honors from the University of Florida with a BS in Mechanical Engineering (1998) and earned a MS in Industrial Engineering from Purdue (2000), a MS in Statistics from Purdue (2001) and his Ph.D. in Mathematical Statistics from Purdue in 2003.

2 Dr. Annis was also recognized for his outstanding teaching by the Operations Research Department at the Naval Postgraduate School in 2005.
